WHICH SIZE AIR CONDITIONER DO I NEED?
Good question! As a general rule, you will want an air conditioner that is ideally sized for your home so that it is not running over capacity or sitting idle for too long.
A quick method you can use to estimate the ideal size is to take your square footage and divide it by 400. Typically, the average home needs 1 ton for every 400 sq ft of living space that will be cooled.
So, if your home is 1,200 sq ft, you will require a 3-ton air conditioner.
WHO MAKES THE BEST AIR CONDITIONER?
Like any major appliance, there are multiple brands that offer different types of products and product options depending on what your specific needs are. Because of this, it’s hard to say that “COMPANY X” makes the best air conditioner.
However, we only carry air conditioners that have a proven track record for both performance and reliability.
WHEN SHOULD I GET MY AIR CONDITIONER SERVICED?
It is always a good idea to have regular service inspections for the major HVAC assets in your home. Having regular inspections can keep everything running at its most efficient, as well as prevent damage to the system. Either way, keeping your air conditioners serviced results in benefits in the long run.
We would suggest having your air conditioner serviced annually.
CAN DEBRIS GET INTO THE AIR CONDITIONER?
Like any machine, air conditioners get gummed up over time. While air conditioners are specifically designed to deal with air filtration and airflow, it will eventually build up dirt and debris in the system. This can really affect the efficiency of the air conditioner, meaning that the system will work harder and use more energy to reach the set temperature.
This is where annual maintenance will really pay off: everything will keep clean and operating at maximum efficiency.
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE LIFESPAN OF AN AIR CONDITIONER?
While there are numerous factors that will influence this, as a general rule, it’s safe to assume that a modern air conditioner will last for around 20 years.
Air conditioners from the 1980’s or 1990’s will last for around 15 years before they start presenting problems.
Of course, it goes without saying that frequency of use, upkeep and maintenance, and climate all play a major role in influencing the longevity of your air conditioner.
